In the Quran (6:74) Azar is the idol-worshipping father of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), and in Persian azar means fire, linked with Zoroastrian fire worship. It is common in Pakistan, but the associations are not good.
قرآن (انعام 74) میں آزر حضرت ابراہیمؑ کے بت پرست والد کا نام ہے، اور فارسی میں آذر کا مطلب آگ ہے جو آتش پرستی سے جڑا ہے۔ پاکستان میں عام ہے، مگر نسبت اچھی نہیں۔

۞ وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَٰهِيمُ لِأَبِيهِ ءَازَرَ أَتَتَّخِذُ أَصْنَامًا ءَالِهَةً ۖ إِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰكَ وَقَوْمَكَ فِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ
اور (وہ وقت بھی یاد کرنے کے لائق ہے) جب ابراہیم نے اپنے باپ آزر سے کہا کہ تم بتوں کو کیا معبود بناتے ہو۔ میں دیکھتا ہوں کہ تم اور تمہاری قوم صریح گمراہی میں ہو
(Remember) when Abraham said unto his father Azar: Takest thou idols for gods? Lo! I see thee and thy folk in error manifest.
